Qing Ling, a descendant of the Shu Mountain sect, possesses golden eyes that allow her to see demonic auras and read demons’ memories. Cursed to die before twenty-one, she must hunt demons and accumulate good karma to extend her life.
In Chang’an, she joins forces with Dali Temple judge Wang Yanzhou and imperial guard officer Chen Yunshu to investigate a series of supernatural cases. They discover that the disturbances are orchestrated by Pei Chong, a Grand Tutor possessed by an ancient Demon King known as the Red String Lord, who plans to sacrifice one hundred civilians to open the gates to the demon realm.
Qing Ling learns that she inherited the Shu Mountain sect’s ancient seal and that her mother died protecting it. On the night of the blood moon, she allies with demons and human forces to confront Pei Chong. Sacrificing all her spiritual powers, she successfully reseals the Demon King. Though left powerless with snow-white hair, Qing Ling remains at Dali Temple and becomes a true forensic examiner.
